The CFD Analysis of a Screw Compressor Suction Flow
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dynamic flow losses in the suction chamber are a significant factor in reducing screw compressor efficiency but can only be roughly estimated in compressor design due to the simplified methods of analysis used to account for them. Today, Computational Fluid Mechanics analysis may be used to estimate velocity, pressure, temperature and concentration fields within a screw compressor far more accurately. This technique can thus be employed to design a suction port with minimised flow losses. The paper describes the application of a CFD procedure to calculate screw compressor suction flow. A numerical grid of the suction chamber was generated by a 2-D transfinite interpolation combined with the layer meshing technique. This was used to develop an independent and stand-alone interface program which connects the screw compressor geometry to a conventional numerical pre-processor. Typical results arising from its use when linked to Comet, a commercial CFD solver, are shown for an oil-flooded screw compressor.

Performance Optimization of Screw Compressors Based on Numerical Investigation of the Flow Behavior Based on Different Grid Generation Approach
In the field of screw compressors, although the basic operation of flow systems is well known and the analytical methods for their performance prediction are well established, only few attempts of investigating the flow by means of CFD can be identified in the available literature. In this paper, two important aspects of numerical investigation of the flow behavior are presented. Firstly, metho...

Modelling of screw compressors using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) offers better insight into the working chamber of twin screw machines when compared with chamber models. As shown by authors in earlier publications, CFD models predict performance of dry gas and refrigeration compressors fairly accurately. However numerical flow models used for modelling of oil flooded twin screw compresso...

متن کاملDry Screw Compressor Performance and Application Range
Screw compressors have the advantage of low mechanical vibration levels similar to those found in centrifugal compressors due their rotary motion. However, screw compressors are positive displacement machines with a working principle similar to reciprocating compressors, which gives screws some advantages compared to centrifugals, such as: • The suction volume flow and power consumption grow li...
